So, this will probably sound arrogant, but i feel very comfortable putting our gesshin stones up agains pretty much anything on the market, and i think our stones will shine. I was thinking it might be fun to put together a complete set of the stone and do a small passaround for a short period of time.

Because there is potential damage and loss, i need to make sure we go about it in a smart way, but here are some stones i was going to throw in there if possibe
    • geshhin 220
    • geshhin 320
    • gesshin 400
    • gesshin 400s
    • gesshin 600
    • gesshin 1200
    • gesshin jinzo aoto
    • gesshin 1500
    • gesshin 2000
    • gesshin 3000
    • gesshin 4000
    • gesshin 6000
    • gesshin 6000s
    • gesshin 8000
    • gesshin 1000/6000 combo stone
    • maybe a couple of diamond stones
    • and possibly a natural or 2
    • and probably 1 or 2 new stones that havent been introduced yet, but are coming soon

I would sell the stones at a discount after the passaround. In terms of participation, I would like to limit to people i know. I may require a credit card on file or something as well, since it will be a lot of money. We will have strict rules on shipping and storage.

    Thoughts?

Really, the main reason is that i think we have some of the best, if not the best stones right now, and i would love to put them to the test and let you see for yourselves if you agree or disagree.

  2. I would love to be up for something like this Jon. I don't know how much I could contribute in terms of feedback...but having access to this kind of package would DEFINITELY be of benefit to me in increasing my education on water stones, as well as give me a sampling of your products so I could more easily choose which would fit my needs (this has been the thing holding me back on ordering stones from anyone...as we discussed the last time we talked).

All things considered though, I'm totally ok with you passing on me in favor of more experienced sharpeners :).

All of this said, I have to ask...are you really thinking of shipping out 21 stones in a package lol?

I wish international shipping wasn't so expensive Jon , I have always heard great things about them but haven't had chance to use any

Cheaper for me to fly to California and take a course in burglary.

haha... if you ever make it out here, just let me know. I'll make time to hang out and show you all of these stones and more :)

  9. Wow,
that's a hell of a roster! I'd be interested, but I should admit - I only own Geshhin stones so I wouldn't be able to compare them against anything else.
I have three soakers (400,2k,4k) and think they're all superb, so I'd be stoked to try more stones.
    Cheers

i'm still undecided on this right now, and i would likely keep the number of participants pretty small to start... anyways, still mulling it over.

I'd be able to directly compare them to Shapton GS and some Naniwa stones.

I would cut it down to four of the stones plus a natural or a diamond and three stones... Or go after the single edge crowd with one box and the abled user with another.

i like the huge passaround idea... i think i might even order a pelican case for this. Like i said, it would be extremely limited in the number of people, but if it goes well, i could do a second run.

I hope this time I get to spend more than 5 minutes in your store , already contemplating my next trip

  15. I think you should just have a Holiday tour of Aus Jon and bring them with you

i wish... would love to get out there and i have a lot of friends working out there now days. Also really want to get to NZ, but we havent taken a real vacation in years. We get a couple days here and there, and a lot of business trips, but nothing like a real vacation for a long time. Going to hawaii next year though :)

Here's a breakdown of how stones should be used/cared for:

    1. JKI Diamond 1000- Splash and go... soaking is ok, but does nothing to help or hurt the stone
    2. JKI Diamond 6000- Splash and go... soaking is ok, but does nothing to help or hurt the stone
    3. Gesshin 1000/6000 Combo- Soaking stone... 10-15 minutes or until bubbles stop coming out
    4. Gesshin 1200 Splash and Go- Splash and go resinoid stone... works better with a short soak or permasoak, but drying slowly is EXTREMELY important... dry in a cool, dry location, away from direct sunlight... wrap with a damp towel when drying to slow down the drying process and help prevent stone cracking
    5. Gesshin 1500 Splash and Go- Splash and Go only... DO NOT SOAK
    6. Gesshin 2000-Soaking stone... 10-15 minutes or until bubbles stop coming out
    7. Gesshin 220- Soaking stone... 10-15 minutes or until bubbles stop coming out (may need frequent splashing)
    8. Gesshin 3000 Splash and Go- Splash and Go only... DO NOT SOAK
    9. Gesshin 320 Splash and Go- Splash and Go only... DO NOT SOAK
    10. Gesshin 400- Soaking stone... 10-15 minutes or until bubbles stop coming out
    11. Gesshin 4000- Soaking stone... 10-15 minutes or until bubbles stop coming out
    12. Gesshin 400s- Soaking stone... 10-15 minutes or until bubbles stop coming out
    13. Gesshin 600 Splash and Go- Splash and go resinoid stone... works better with a short soak or permasoak, but drying slowly is EXTREMELY important... dry in a cool, dry location, away from direct sunlight... wrap with a damp towel when drying to slow down the drying process and help prevent stone cracking
    14. Gesshin 6000 Splash and Go- Splash and go resinoid stone... works better with a short soak or permasoak, but drying slowly is EXTREMELY important... dry in a cool, dry location, away from direct sunlight... wrap with a damp towel when drying to slow down the drying process and help prevent stone cracking
    15. Gesshin 6000s- Soaking stone... 10-15 minutes or until bubbles stop coming out
    16. Gesshin 8000- Soaking stone... 10-15 minutes or until bubbles stop coming out
