I've been using the Edison Glenmont B&B LE with medium steel nib for the last week or so after a long hiatus. I'd forgotten how great a pen it is.

  2. Anyone have experience with Waterman Edson pens? I know nothing of pens, but have several of these from around '94 or '95 when the company was owned by Gillette. They're in boxes and I think unused. I don't know if they have cartridges in them or not - but if there were I assume there would be a process to follow to clean up dried ink and make them useable again?

Ok, I received my first fountain pen - a PIF from my friend (and member here), Matt S. It's a well loved, but really nice Warerman Expert. I bought Serenity Blue ink for it, which seemed fitting, as well as fit my eye colourwise. I really like how it writes, and I've been using only it since I got it. Now, the problem; My wife decided to give it a whirl this morning, while filling out our son's baby book. I thought for sure, she'd say something about it being high-maintenance, like most of my knives, my car, my golf clubs, my frying pans, etc. BUT, she said:

This writes really nicely, and I like how it feels in my hand. Everyone seems to think they take long to dry, but it seems quick to me. Wow, this writes really smoothly...it's French? Hmm....

Looks like I have a new pen to shop for in the next little while, and it's not for me...sigh....

Oh, and a big thanks to Matt! It turns out left-handed over-writers can very easily use a fountain pen. :)

My pen came yesterday. I managed to get the ink in it and not get any on my fingers! Ha! I'm not letting the missus have a go at it. It will likely be her new pen then :(

James, thanks again for the help. It writes as I was hoping it would. numbered 30/88

I need to use my FPs more. Since I got my Retro 51 Thomas Jefferson, my fountain pens have been getting neglected.

first rule of pen ownership... the wife takes ownership of all tested pens lol... not only will she claim that one, but will now want to try out all future pen buys in case she likes that one better lol

Pierre glad you like it, a tip about writing with any stub, or italic... keep the angle of the flat part of the nib at a constant relation to the page... dont rotate the pen around your letters, it gives the best line variation and really pops the characters

Buy a decoy pen and hide that one!

I agree. Buy a Pilot 78G with a medium nib for her to try ($10 shipped on ebay with a converter). If she hates it, you've got another fun pen to try out.

The Pilot 78G and the resin Monteverde, I'm thinking.

If you write very fine, the 78G will be better. For what it's worth Pierre, the note I included in my package to you was from a Pilot F nib.

I really don't care for Edisons; I have two, both with custom nibs (one Binder, one Masuyama), but I just was never as impressed as the rest of the web community seems to be (both the nibs and the pens were meh).
