What I'll Be Doing This Weekend.

Here's a shot of new stuff just back from K&G that I'll be putting to the sander this weekend. A couple of new species for me starting with Anigre at the left side. It's very reminiscent of Satinwood, but the ripples are tighter, more consistent and have more chatoyance. The 12 pieces to the right of the Anigre are Leopardwood. No way you can see the beauty of the grain on these in this shot, but they don't call it Leopardwood for nothing. I sanded of one side of a piece just to peek under the stabilization coating and I like what I saw: spots in front of my eyes. When I get all the crap off and it hits the 80 grit I'll really know. Just below the Leopardwood are 8 pieces of amazing spalted Tamarind. The ripple you see in the photo are built up stabilizers not the wood. The spalting on these babies is really quite nice. To the left of the Tamarind are six pieces of old growth Redwood Lace. Some very tight eye patterns on these. The darker pieces are Ebony from a couple of different slabs, and that's some Curly Maple at the far right.

With any luck I'll have these all in the store sometime during next week.

Thanks Mareko. They do look like they're going to turn out very nice. I'll post some pictures of the finished product Sunday or Monday.

There's even more than that. I have more Anigre, Ebony and Curly Maple than is shown in the picture. I'm going to be a very busy boy. Good thing I have lots of sanding belts.

I have a correction to make. While their appearance is very similar, the spalted pieces in the above picture are Hackberry not Tamarind. They are still amazing though. Maple, Tamarind and Hackberry all get pretty close in appearance when they're spalted. Mareko, hope you're still interested.

  8. Ohhh I can't wait to see them all cleaned up! That leopard wood sounds enticing.

I'm excited about the Leopardwood too. They're a first time for me and I'm looking forward to seeing them shine. I have a feeling they may have some chatoyance going in within those "spots". Actually the spots are more like flakes, and across the slab these were cut from the flakes varied in size so each blank is a bit different. I'll try to post some pictures of them, maybe Saturday afternoon or Sunday.

  10. I'm going to be checking in to make sure I don't lose out. I seem to be just a few clicks too late most of the time lol

As promised, here's a couple of pics of the Spalted Hackberry (not Tamarind). As you can see, they came out very nice indeed. You should also know that these are relatively small pieces measuring about 4.75"x1.5"x1.25. For those of you who expressed interest, I hope you still are. I should have these listed on the site Monday or Tuesday at the latest. The Leopardwood came out nice too and I post some pics of that after I have breakfast.

Here's the Leoparwood. As you can see, there is a wide variety of color and "flaking". There is some chatoyance with the flakes, but not as much as I'd hoped. They will be listed about the same time as the Hackberry.

That's great, thanks. The photographs don't really do these pieces justice.

I really like the hackberry, very nice figuring and colors. Interested to see how the anigre comes out, I have seen pictures with very nice examples but never used the wood.
