Carter SFGZ RH funayuki before and after

Here are before and after pics of a Carter SFGZ RH funayuki.

I cleaned up and flattened the blade road with an Atoma 140 and 400, then used a King 800 to create the kasumi effect. I was surprised and pleased that there was so much contrast between the shirogami (white steel) core and the stainless cladding.

Looks great, this just reminds me of the need to sort out rehandling my riveted handle Carters. The contrast is why I think I prefer the SFGZ line to the HG

I picked it up from Stefan during his "I need a car" sale. I really like the handle.

Beautiful knife, Rick. I think my next purchase is going to be a funayuki. I just like the idea of a single bevel in a "non specific" knife profile.

How do you like the knife? Do you find it to be brittle? Do you like using/working with it?

Rick , I'm curious if you've tried and liked anything else between the Atoma 140 and the King 800 other than the Atoma 400. I loaned mine out and sadly looks like it might not be coming back.

I only recently started working with the King 800, and only have experience with the Atoma 140/400 to flatten the blade road.

In the past, I used a DMT XXC, followed by a Naniwa Omura 150 and then a Naniwa "Green Brick", but I was less than overjoyed with the result. Not to mention that the Omura dished like crazy.

Next time I work on a blade road I'll try a Gesshin 400 and see how it works.
