Here's a photo of three pieces of Quilted Maple. The one in the middle is in its natural state while the two outside have stabilized and dyed by K&G. I did those two as a test to see how they'd turn out and I'm pretty happy with the results, but I'm looking for some feedback on what you all think and what other colors I should consider. Thanks for the help.

Those all look great... The red is actually red!

You could get away with any color on those. I'm partial to blue but that my favorite color. Green might not sell as well but would still hold a spot. A brown/tan/darker than natural, I imagine, would move well.

I don't think I am of much help here.

Wonder what sunburst would look like on a knife handle, sure makes guitar tops look amazing, running front to back on a knife in my head at least would be cool

Both blue and red look great. Out of curiosity what colours are options/available for dying?

  6. I think they came out amazingly well. I love how vibrant the colors are. All 3 together would make a pretty bad ass Americana handle ;)

I'm pretty partial to peacock blue. I've seen a few on the ironwood site but they're always either wrong size or wrong wood. Beautiful color though. The double dyed red/orange is pretty nice as well but that takes a special person to get that color. Really dark green or green/black can be beautiful too if it's done on the right wood.

ETA: you really can't go wrong with blues or purples. They seem to be the most popular. Would LOVE to find a two tone turquoise/natural burl block.

That's what I'm after too, turquoise. I just don't know if K&G can do it.

I'm getting a list of colors they provide. I'll share it with you when I get it.

Straight from K&G: Black, Brown, Yellow, Red, Blue, Green, Purple and Orange. Here's how they look on Box Elder.

What's your favorite? I like the blue, green and purple.

  10. I like them all but blue, purple and black would be my picks for handles. Do they double or triple dye? You could create some awesome looking blocks by combining colors.

Spice, if I come across anything from a reputable place I'll let you know!

Like I always say, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder". I've gotten a number of responses and it seems like the only colors people don't really like are the orange and yellow. A couple of responses bear note: Mark from Burl Source tells me his best selling Maple dyed pieces are black, blue and green. Thanks Mark. A maker of hunting knives from another forum cautioned me not to use colors so bright that they would stand out on someone's belt. I also contacted K&G to see if they did double dyeing. Thanks for the suggestion Erica. I'll let you know what they say.

I have about 12 piece of this wood that I'll be sending into K&G. I think I'll start with 4 each of black, blue and green. I have a boatload more of this stuff waiting to be cut so depending on how the sales on these 12 go I'll proceed from there. If anyone is interested in one of the two I posted in the first picture of this thread shoot me a PM. Thanks for all the input everyone.

Just heard back from K&G. They do double dye. You can see some examples of that on their site at www.kandgstabilizing.com. This could be very cool!

That'd be awesome! I've found a couple but I'm not sure of their reputation and I wasn't in love with them. The search continues!

The double-dyed stuff looks great. It would definitely make for some dramatic blocks :)

Double-dyed is definitely cool. And I admit to being weired, I really like the orange, had not seen that before.

It's starting to remind me of a game of Candy Crush.
