14K or 21K nib? Either way, that's an amazing deal!

Yeah, but will we notice that we're being sucked down another black hole at the same time?

I think it's a cross enable thing. We're the fish for knives and such, and they're the fish for pens/ pipes and shaving gear LOL.

Way ahead of you on shaving gear...pens were just a matter of time. :)

Engieka does have a special sailor I believe with a steel nib, but id imagine if that is indeed what you grabbed, it is still a great pen

I like the look of the Sailor, I have seen and held those big fatass Mont Blanc pens, those are a bit on the awkward size of things. The all black pen in the first image you posted looks good as well.

I know looks aren't the most important criteria, but hey, dude gotta start somewhere right?

At your price point buying looks of the pens above wont get you into trouble, just carefull qith the sailor Pro Gears, there is a pro gear two.. and it doesnt (to me) look as nice, thereis also pro gear and pro gear slim, the non slim has a two tone (gold and rhodium) nib and costs more, the slim is what you see above

I have a few fountain pens that write nicely, nothing expensive, Lamy Safari, and some China specials. I like to hand write my Knife Purchase Certificates in a nice juicy green or red/orange as the mood takes me. Not that my writing is up to much, but it makes me take much more pleasure in the process, and as they say its the little things!

It's those little things that add up to big things. I know if I ever had a chance to get one of your knives, I would notice something like a handwritten certificate in fountain pen ink. But, I'm into fountain pens and enjoy the look.

My handwriting doesn't look anywhere as nice when I'm not using a fountain pen. This I know! The cursive italic or flex nibs help too.

Looks are very important to me. I'm a form and fuction sort of guy. I want it all if I'm spending good money on a high quality pen, knife, or whatever. And why not? Life's too short to expect anything less.

Is the medium nib on the Pilot Metropolitan the same as the medium on the VP in terms of line thickness?

It should be darn close. I use a VP fine for work. The medium would probably pass for work but the spreadsheets are kind of tiny. Haha

Pretty much. The VP fine is quite fine, though.

    Ok, two things:

Will, I noticed the certificate with my gyuto, and loved it. I now hand write certain for my brushes that I make, as a result. Once I get a nice fountain pen, it'll be that much nicer.... :D

    And

As a left-hander, do I run the risk of hating fountain pens? My uncle has a collection, but never uses them (the number of lefties in my family is crazy).

Absolutely not. There are plenty of left handed fountain pen users. It's really no different than being right handed. The only difference is that you may drag your hand through the ink, depending on if your style is to overwrite or underwrite. If you think you would have the possibility to get your hand inky, they do make fast drying inks and also make left hand specific Nibs, if you want to get into an Italic or Stub Nib ( wider lines ).
