Wet Shaving?

With a face full of lather and a feather you are not going to hear anything anyway. What issues are you running into?

You can look at them at least. Don't know about every blade ever made, but at least 70 of them. There are probably 10-20 that are not pictured.

I picked these up from a market today for £1.75 for 4 packs, do you need any for the blade exchange?

 

I typically wouldn't turn down a donation, but shipping from the UK for a blade I've got plenty of doesn't add up.

Feathers are very sharp but rather unforgiving. A better choice is to start with blades renowned for smoothness, such as the very value priced Astras or the almost-as-sharp-as-a-Feather Polsilvers.

It may take a bit of diddliing around to find a combination that suits you- no different than sharpening stones.

 

Just getting the angles right. Want to minimize razor burn.

Sounds intriguing. Maybe I will get a couple to try out later.

 

If you use no pressure and have good lather, the angle can vary quite a bit, if in doubt just lift the handle. On the other hand don't over think the shave relax and just do it!

I bought a Penn razor off eBay to see how it compared to my GEM. Bust. Apparently the Penn takes it's own unique size/shape of blade. Oh well. Live and learn!

 

The hard way. :

 

Well, I just fell down this rabbit hole, too! Found my Great Uncle's MAGNETOSTEEL SR and a Gottlieb Hammesfahr (with matching case) a few years ago. The MAG is pretty wide, but had a crack near the toe, so I ground that out. The GH had a nick in the edge, so I honed that out and am in the process of getting these sharp! Then I picked up a vintage Findlay Roberts near wedge and a Landers Frary and Clark hollow grind from Ebay and yesterday I won a Challenge Cutlery SR on Ebay. The LF&C and Challenge Cutlery are both from CT, which is one of the reasons I went for them since I live in CT! I have plenty of stones and got an Illinois 127 strop, Proraso Green Tub Soap, SRD Lavender and MWF soaps, ceramic mug, Omega Boars hair brush, alum, styptic pencil, aftershaves, etc. Getting decent shaves with the SR on the cheeks to the jaw, still working on the jaw, chin and neck areas. Debating a DE or SE razor for the neck area since my hair grows all different directions. With my current Gilette ProGlide Fusion Cart razor, I usually need to make 3 passes from ear to throat on each side of the neck to get those hairs after a N to S pass and S to N pass.

 

I have a Superspeed siting around that I can let you try out.
