    Yup. That works.

  2. You can't just post a pic and not do specs!
Looks awesome Anton, you've still got my address right?

  3. oh specs… it's a Bog Oak handle sitting on a Zakuri funayuki laying on a Takashima laying on my windowsill.

Chris, I planned to write a complete thread about this handle, but don't have enough free time for it. Here a quick snap of what kept me busy over the course of last 2 weeks.

Most of those aren't finished, so it will take a while before I'd be ready to ship anything anywhere :D

Love the polystyrene holder in the last pic!

The handles kick ass but you already knew my feelings about most of them. :)

You think the bog oak handle belongs on the Z or the C? The Z looks great with it, but do you think the size is a good match? Perhaps give it a little cutting workout and let me know if it's a good match.

They all look great. Nice Work!
I do like the new Bog Oak one best.

  10. Ok, I took enough photos today and can shed some light here.

Since Mark had usurped all the decent wood sources, there's no question for me where to buy wood. But Mark doesn't sell any cool stuff that can be used as spacers/ferrules: corian, vulcanized fiber, metal, horns/bones, all sorts of plastic etc/etc/etc. In my search for ultimate spacer material I stumbled upon one guy on Ebay who managed to stabilize bushes from his backyard into nice looking pen blanks.

    It called Hairy Banksia.
You can google a few guys who have made a pretty amazing looking fountain pens using this material.
Each pen blank features two cross cut pieces of Banksia filled with some sort of resin. This material is pretty fragile by design, and isn't the easiest to finish properly, but results are worth trying.

I've made few handles with spacers from this stuff and I'm pretty happy with how it comes out.
Best results seemed to comes when Banksia is combined with darker wood:

Though with lighter wood it looks not bad either:

Tho handles above aren't yet fully finished and lack glossiness, but still you can get an idea how Banksia spacer would look like.

You were right; that Zakuri is actually a pretty good model. The blue "brain lake" in the banksia spacer is really distinctive. If that spacer were on the gidgee handle or the more tapered one, it'd be my favorite handle from you.

Very nice work, Anton! The banksia is a great find. I had been looking at the banksia pods from Australia for some time, wondering how to use them. You had a great eye for that material!

How do you feel about these:

That was my other finding on Ebay. I received 3 blanks yesterday and they do look interesting, however their size makes them suitable only for smallest handles. Oh, and they do shine in the dark. A little :)

  16. Beautiful, beautiful handles!

Those stabilized flowers are really interesting as well, lol.

  18. They might not exists at all, if it's not your WIP thread on KKF. I used it as my main guide for learning the process.

Really digging this. Banksia absolutely makes for some dramatic handles! I could see this becoming an awesome 'signature' for some of your handles (similar to how WillC likes a jade spacer, I associate the jade spacer with his work).
