Wet Shaving?

I will be sure to do so. Just finished dinner and some great beer at Squatters.

 

Crystols were OK, I think the Lords were horrible in my Parker 24C. Put my fave Gillette & O Clock Yellow in and got 5 clean, smooth awesome shaves on 5 days straight!!! Gillette Greens were pretty good, but the yellows rocked! Gonna buy some yellows and Sharks soon! I have some other blades to test out as well of the sampler, but it was a lot of fun to go thru a variety of blades to see how they worked! Soaps, I have RazoRock Brain Freeze and Fresco, Proraso Green, SRD Lavender and Arko cream. These all seem to work well, with the RazoRock and SRD being my faves so far. Time to try new soaps!

 

Those yellows are in the top tier of sharp blades, that's going to be a short list of more sharp than them.

 

Yeah, Feathers, Kai, and GSB were plenty sharp, but my neck was irritated for several hours afterwards, felt like I had all sorts of tiny papercuts on my neck. The Shark Super Stainless is just behind the Gillete 7 oclock yellows and greens. I have some Polsilvers, some Wilkinson and I think 1 more brand to try, but it will be hard to beat the Gillette's and Sharks!

 

Polsilvers are terrific also, a little smoother.

Polsilvers were OK, but felt somewhat dull to me, didn't seem to cut well?

I did my first bulk order! 100 Shark Super Stainless and 100 Gillette 7 O'Clock Sharp Edge Yellows!

A question to all of the esteemed wet shavers. Lately I have begun noticing that I have rough thick hairs that are a bit stubborn to remove. I tried changing angles extra passes etc but no success. What am it missing.

 

How is your prep, what are you doing? when you say stubborn to remove, do you get them or is it a case where you cut them but they are above the skin line and just feel "not close" ?

 

A quick hot shower (sometimes no prep at all) I cut them but they are above the skin line and do not feel close.

 

Well right there we could improve that- soap and a hot towel for a few moments repeated a couple time is better than nothing. Remember to go for multiple light passes to reduce the beard one step at a time- not eliminate it in one fell swoop. Going with >then across from both directions> followed by against the grain is the standard practice.
If your razor is tugging or pulling you may need more prep and a sharper blade. At the end of the day if you shoot for a comfortable shave you will find its becoming closer as time passes and your technique improves.

 

Thanks Jim, I do the basic with and cross the grain passes. Around 2 each. They eliminate most whiskers. At the end there are a couple of rough spots I will see what I can do in terms of the towel trick.

Just wash the face with hot water and cover with a hot towel after? Any idea for how long?

 

Depends on your face. Try it once until the towel cools some. Lather up once and rinse off with hot water. If that doesn't help, truth two towels.

Do those rough spots grow in a different direction than other hairs around them? My neck hairs grow in all sorts of directions so a standard eight he grain pass is actually sideways or down in a Few spots.

I also can't go for a super smooth shave on my neck. Too much irritation no matter the prep, soap or blade. In satisfied with a damn fine shave.

 

I'm not sure I'm going to bother with fancy shave soaps any more. I've bought $3 or $4 bars of homemade soap at the local farmers market and art festivals that shave just as well if not better than the shave soaps I've bought on line. Especially the goats milk soaps.

 

I tried a stick of Palmolive yesterday, lathered up quite nice and was only 50p in my local Tesco supermarket, I still want to try some of the fancy stuff though

 

The green stick is a pretty good one, give the Valobra stick a try... its about as good as it gets.

The 100g pieces of Valobra last forever... I have two and the first one is barely used. Granted all my soaps seems to last forever since I'm only a neck shaver now.
