Wet Shaving?

felt for pastes and sprays, which i dont own i visit a friend when needed, but the leather and webbed fabric i leave plain... but that may all change

 

How is the tobs sandalwood? I've been enjoying the AoS sandalwood and SWMBO really enjoys the scent.

 

You may like it. I did at one time. Try together a sample if either.

 

Think I might have a dabble with a straight soon, got some advice from the good guys on B&B, just got to decide whether to get a vintage shave ready or new one like a Gold Dollar that has been mentioned, I really like vintage stuff so might try and find a shave ready vintage straight that isn't too expensive, no point throwing money at it, yet

 

I'm sure you already know this, but the Whipped Dog straights are a great entry level value. A Gold Dollar, from a reputable B&B'r is a good choice as well.

 

I always appreciate info even if someone thinks I might have heard it before, just had a look at the Whipped Dog shave ready Sight Unseen ones, seems a decent way of getting in to as I have no idea what I am looking at anyway

 

I think you'd be fine going either way. You'd be getting a shave ready razor from Larry, or one of the hobbyists from B&B, as opposed to something you don't know is shave ready.

 

Holy Cow! I just saw a commercial on TV for the Microtouch DE razor. Dude from the pawn shop show was stumping for them. Razor and 12 blades for $19.99. But wait call now and we will give you an extra 12 blades and an convenient carry case!

 

That's very popular actually. It's bringing in lots of newbies to wet shaving. It's like a gateway razor.

 

15 Straights including 2 FBUs, fili doble temple, Puma, a couple japanese western straights, and a tanaka kamisori. I use a Rod Neep custom brush I got from Mr Magnus. Soaps: MWF, and something called queen charlotte I found at an antique store. I like the AoS sandalwood cream and ToBS Jermyn street as well. Been at it a couple of years now...can't imagine going back to a cartridge!! A couple old Gillette DEs as well

Just wasn't happy with my whipped dog straight so after using it for about a month I broke down and bought a razor off srd. looking forward to leaning even more.

I am still doing a combo of first pass straight wtg, and then moving to my att to finish with an atg pass. Bit hesitant to go xtg or atg with the straight as of yet.

 

Vesteroid - Stick with it brother! Take it as slow as you feel comfortable with. I shaved with a Taylor's 'easy shaver' today and it was fantastic! If you keep trying you'll get it down in due time. Once you get that first 'perfect' shave, you'll be hooked! I still get the occasional nick and my neck hairs are awful (grow sideways) but once you tailor your technique to your face you'll get it down Good luck and most of all ENJOY IT!!

Odd thing is I feel I can keep my knives pretty sharp, but don't think I a gettingmy straight sharp. That's one reason I wanted to really see what a shave ready razor felt like as compared to what I am using. Mine feels like it pulls 4-5 times more than my de att open comb.

 

Got my first straight in the post yesterday, think I need to watch a few more vidoes before I bring that large blade up to my face though!

 

This is where I am. I would like to try a straight but I have enough going on with sharpening knives I really have no interest in sharpening and honing straight razors. I guess I'll stick with my SE.

 

Picked up a Kanenaga Kamisori in Blue #2 and a bunch of other SR's. I think I have like 17 folding SR's and the 1 Kamisori now Got a decent shave with the Kamisori after sharpening it up, but the neck always give me troubles with the wiry coarse hair and growing weird directions.

 

In the oops department...I just dropped a straight while shaving which decided to leave a very nice 5" long cut in my stomach. Opened me up like a surgeon. Was only a superficial wound but bled like the dickens.

Bet I don't do that again

 

Yikes!! Hope it heals ok. I still haven't tried mine out yet, might be a little longer after hearing that
