Hmmmm....knew that reminded me of something.

    Great looking knife!

  2. Thank you miss!

This is the one it reminded me if though...lol!

Most of my knives actually make me think of sharks...but the wild hamon ones always put me in mind of tigers (like this one) or great whites :).

Your knives are too sleek and speedy looking for those chubby fish. Mako all the way.

Huh, I didn't see a shark at all. With the edge up, I'd call it Hithaeglir.

  5. I like that...!

For those of you who don't know:

    Very, very cool my friend!

  6. Quick update on the utility:

The handle is fit and the first application of epoxy is curing.

The little fricker is vicious sharp too.

I've been working on ideas for the handle on the gyuto as well...and decided to build one I had mocked up in Photoshop previously:

While the knife blade above is one I made previously (it belongs to @Wagner the Wehrwolf ), I mocked up a handle digitally for it to test out some ideas with various pieces of wood I have on hand. This was one of my favorites.

    Sooooo.....

    And glued:

I just hope the black/blue/orange comes back with working the wood. The greygreys and yellows are cool...but the slate blue was really nice.

Love the shark analogies.....but to me this looks like a storm. Look at those angry clouds......

  8. Well...the blue didn't come back. I find it really weird that the wood just completely changed color like that. Ahh well...I still like the way it turned out. There ended up being some cool spalting/burl type activities on the presentation side that look really cool. We'll see how it looks on the knife tomorrow. If I don't like it...we'll save this for something else...and make another!

Yeah if it doesn't work on the bigger knife, it might be able to go on a 210mm or something...

After seeing this completed, I think it's safe to say you passed the test

Bro, just keep sanding. I've found that dyed woods really respond the the high grits. The higher you go, the deeper and more pronounced the colors git. At a lower grit finish sanding dust tends to get trapped in the grain and washes out the colors.

    Be well,
    Mikey

  12. Thanks everyone!

Mikey...I took it to a glass smooth 1200 grit...and its still grey as grey can be lol. The colors just straight faded. This is the same piece of wood when I first received it:

I'm not sure if it was just junk dye...or what...but either way it turned out alright I think :).

The blade needs repolished from 800g up...and of course fit to the handle...but otherwise this one is pretty much done too.

Next up...some refinish work...a 58mm on the heel 250mm gyuto, and another 300mm suji ;).

    that gyuto looks pretty promising!

  15. Thanks man! I've got to say though....the activity you guys CAN'T see is easily as amazing as what the camera is showing. Its nuts.

  16. A couple knives for sale :).

    20150205_192755_1.jpg
75mm paring knife, buckeye burl from Mark (this is the other piece from the chunk your ko-gyuto is from Robert), purple maple burl, and African blackwood from Myron. Price is $425 shipped.

265mm hitatsura gyuto. I do not want to sell this knife. Repeat. I do NOT want to sell this knife...lol. BUT!! I know I won't give it the usage it deserves...soooo, here it is. It's still what I'd consider a laser, though I left it thicker on the spine and through the middle than I do typically. As you've seen above...the handle is something else. Box elder burl in about a hundred very defined shades of grey and browns, with some really cool spalting on the butt. $975 shipped.

Oh, also...all those comments I made in previous posts about the activity you guys couldn't see?

    Well...there ya go :D.

Both handles are optional (they aren't mounted yet). If you'd like something more to your taste, I'll gladly build something that works for you within the included pricing.

Thanks for looking guys and gals!
