This supposed to be a custom order for a friend but due to work circumstances he had to cancel it literally when I was grinding his knife ,bummer I said but no big deal , changed the length, finished grinding and set the blade aside . I was really happy with the blade at this stage and I was already thinking for handle material .
In the mean time another knife I was working had to be shortened and the nice handle I made for it looked perfect on this , so here we have :
225 mm wa gyuto forged from 52100 in low temp , triple quench and temper . Workhorse grind with crazy distal taper .
Handle is octagonal stabilised mallee burl , brass spacers , walrus ivory ferrule and end cap . 207 grams in weight , 53mm tall at the heel , 3.6mm thick at the spine , 2.35mm mid blade , .80mm inch before tip and .48mm just before 1cm before tip . It will be listed at auction once I clean up bit more unless someone grabs it first ;)

  4. Hey Mert - great looking knife. Am I right in thinking that the grind looks kind of lefty convex?

  5. Wow, love the knife. That is indeed crazy taper... And the walrus didn't die in vain.

  15. Thanks Mert, you have realised my fear. Amazing knife but i fear my marriage may not survive me spending that much at this point.

Good luck with its sale. I'm sure it will be snapped up.

Alex I used to quote in aud when the parity was around same , except my Aussie timbers everything is coming from USA and any changes in parity gets reflected to my raw materials , had to change to usd . Thank you for your interest , don't make the missus angry :)

Absolute steal at that price!!! Similar knives sell for more than twice that price. Great job, brother Mert!!! :cool1 FYI: I have two of Mert's knives and they NEVER come out of the rotation.

  18. Mert, as they say, happy wife, happy life. Though I do keep trying to tell her that getting a knife from you is really about her. Cause I would be doing it to have to go to the Hunter to pick it up and have a long weekend of wine and dining.
