What's on my Bench Today?

  1. Do you mean this one?

I made the video for Joe lol, but I thought you guys might like seeing it too :).

Tomorrow I'm rough polishing Al and Marc's knives up to 600 grit in order to begin handle and saya work. Marc and Joe are taking their sweet time on picking handle wood, so Al's little knife will probably be done first!

  2. Omg this is probably why I don't have a tattoo, there's just so many great options! It's like you could spend a night with any Victoria's Secret model, from any era in her prime, you just have to pick one... <head's exploding>

  3. You mean choosing handle wood lol? It can be tough for sure :D. Right now I'd say the blue from AZ Ironwood you showed me earlier, or maybe this cool piece of feathered walnut I picked up from Mark awhile back. I'll send you a picture of it when I get home lol.

For the wood, I can't help ya'...

  5. He decided on the last piece in this video :D

It's gorgeous Cris...Did I miss what type of wood it is in the video?

I really should consider the feather walnut...too bad it might be less appropriate on a little handle...

  8. @XooMG, that was my very close second choice

  9. Those wood options are all amazing! The feathered walnut is really cool!

  10. Thanks guys!

I can't remember exactly what it is to be honest. I'm 90% sure though that it's dyed redwood burl.

That's a really nice piece!! I originally bought it for Marc's project. I also bought the two pieces of Kingwood for Marc's project, lol. Marc just ordered two piece of ironwood for his project, and is probably sending me those two pieces of big leaf maple for his project also. So don't ever think you've been unusually picky when it comes to wood my friend, lol. Some of my customers take the wood choice incredibly personally! Others don't care at all. My job is to make you all happy...and if it takes 37 pieces of wood for any of you to settle on a piece to use on a single knife...well, I'm just happy they all get to pass through my hands :D.

It also doesn't hurt that I seem to inherit most of them as well...which is a perk worth noting ;).

  11. For those curious how this one turned out:

As always, awesome work Cris! Looking forward to seeing it in person!

  12. Thanks Joe!! I'll get some REAL pictures of it up tomorrow in your own thread :D.

  13. Good news my friends!! I just landed 3 more sticks of the 'extra heavy' blade stock! Good thing too as half of my customers are wanting to change their order from standard to that, lol.

Anyhow, just wanted to toss in that update :).

It's always interesting to watch the tides change. Wonder how many people will get on board when they discover you making cleavers. ;)

  15. I don't know lol. I do know I'll roll with those tides for sure though :D.

  16. :D

And what do we have here...?

I love handles with some sapwood showing. It really gives them a sense of movement.
    Nice hunk of mokume too..
