  1. Hmm...I didn't think of that. I'll look into it for sure though. Thanks for the idea :).

For those on the fence about buying this stone, pls do it. I purchased one with my first knife from Cris and it is staying in my stones line up.

It is so versatile and I think great for carbon knives, when it is worth it to take it to higher grit. I have also used it for full sharpening on my Harner's Carpenter CTS-XHP on that stone alone.

It is a hard stone, which I like. Price is also great for something that will last a long time.

  6. Thanks a ton Ferry! It's awesome to see you guys having similar results to mine.

For everyone else, I haven't heard back from Pennman or any of the other parties who mentioned interest, so there are still two stones left that are available. If you want one, message here or via PM and we'll get you set up.

    Thanks!

  7. I want it!!

  8. Done!!

And ready to go out at 8:30am tomorrow morning. Thanks everyone! Also, there's still one left from this batch if anyone is interested :D.

  10. I'm really keen for one of these. But shipping is a killer. Just hope you have some left when my name comes up Cris

  11. Hey Alex!

One of the ones currently purchased is on hold to ship to England once the knives going with it are finished. Nothing holding you on buying now...unless you think the Australian dollar is going to go up by then? I think you're about 4-5 months out on your knife...maybe less if things keep going smoothly. I certainly don't mind holding on to one that long to make sure you get it.

No pressure of course! Just pointing out that I'm good whichever way you do it :).

  12. Cheers Cris. I might check back with you in a week. Going away for the weekend so shall see how big of a hit the bank account takes

  13. Sounds good! I just got the tracking on the other slabs, so I'm sure to have one for you. Have fun on your weekend away!

  14. Got them all off in the mail at 8:30am :D. I have tracking but there's 11 numbers all on one receipt...so if it's absolutely mandatory you have it let me know...if not, expect them between tomorrow and Friday lol.

  15. Alright ladies and gentlemen! Most if not all of you should have your stones now yes? When you get a chance...I would love to hear your experiences if you could? I know that they work for me...but I'm just one guy with one methodology. Hearing feedback from you all with your various steels, hardness levels, edge geometries, etc...will help me recognize possible weaknesses if there are any!!

    Thanks :).

  16. Not yet, with the impending blizzard here in DC it might not be until Monday :(.

  17. Well...my stone guy has messed things up. He told me he only had slabs over 2" thick, and I said that was fine as I needed at minimum 2.25".

As you can see, this isn't what I ordered...and he's not replying all of the sudden. Needless to say a 1.75" x 6" stone isn't really something I feel comfortable reselling for $60...and I need at least $60 each to make them worth reselling at all...so any new orders are going to have to be put on hold.

    Sorry guys.

    Cris,

Mine was delivered about an hour ago, and I wasted no time in trying it out.

As you say, it is a hard stone, and has little of the tactile feedback that some value in a stone. The feel and feedback that it has reminds me of the 6000 diamond stone that Jon sells.

I've only sharpened a couple of knives and it's too soon to give a final verdict, but it looks good.

  19. Thanks Rick!

I can see a similarity with Jon's 6k diamond also in regards to feel. What I've noticed with these also is that the knife across the stone feels and sounds very glassy, until you lock on the bevel at which point the feel changes. I almost want to say the draw increases slightly...which is probably the most accurate way to put it. The pitch changes too. I've found this useful for helping me hit the edge (even on my very thin bevel knives) as even a degree up or down from locked completely changes it.

Now...for me that makes it easier to use lol...but I can see how it might make it more challenging as well.

One other thing while everyone is still focused here. If over time your stone starts to lose cutting performance, simply take a piece of 120 grit wet or dry sandpaper and a piece of glass...wet the paper, put it on the glass....then rub the stone around in a few forward and reverse figure 8's. This will quickly restore any lost performance.

That said...I just recently refreshed mine, after almost a year and many, many knives being taken from bevel set to fully sharp...so you likely won't be having problems any time soon.

  20. Hi Cris, how can i get into your list for the next batch? Thanks!
