What's on my Bench Today?

I think the customer might have objected lol. Plus, if I'd glued it on it would still have been bent .

 

Speaking of the above knife (the 240mm version lol), it's now for sale. Price starts at $975 for the complete knife with a dual taper handle...with handle options determining the final pricing. If someone were to buy it today, it's possible it could be finished before the end of the weekend. No wait.

As I said, the bulk of the hard work has been done. If I finish it out myself it will likely be with bog oak and mokume, and will sell for either $1125, or just keep it. Truly, I think this one is going to be special.

 

Call it modern knife art, all set.

Btw, this little beast is a stock knife. Though I'm not sure if I'm going to sell it immediately. I want to play with the profile and make sure it works the way I want it to first.

 

That hamon is very unique, quite different from your other ones. Really like it =)

 

I kind of went back to some basics from when I started for it. It was a nice refresher .

 

That little guy turned out pretty cool.

I had 3/5 successes last night, which is pretty good considering lol. Here's the other knives .


First the two failures. 240 XH and a stock 190XH.


And...two more successes . 165 petty, and 300 gyuto lol.

 

Today's work:


Six standard sized water stones cut, corners rounded, and flattened as much as possible on an already dead belt.



And done. Of these, five of the standard and one if the XL are spoken for. I have one XL and one standard left. $60 shipped in the US for the standard, and $100 shipped for the XL due to the clipped corner.

 

Ok lol, the standard size sold. Of this batch only the one XL is remaining.

 

These things are selling like hotcakes!!! :BF

 

They seem to go in cycles lol. I'm just I got enough to have some available for everyone.

 

4 of 5 in this batch! Unfortunately the 5th will have to wait though, as it was hardened too many times unsuccessfully, and will need to be thermal cycled before making another attempt. Still...I'm pleased with the end results here, and will now move on to finishing them.

Oh also, in case anyone is curious...this one was a stock knife also. I had a tag end left on the bar that would have gone to waste (as in not been used until someone ordered a smaller knife), and as I needed a final knife to round out the batch (I prefer to heat treat in 5's)...well, here we are. I do believe it is already spoken for however...but I'll update if not.
