Newest knife: 8" Chefs, damascus with walnut handle

Discussion in 'Handiwork Display' started by T1978_sach, Mar 13, 2016.

  1. I'm not the best photographer so sorry about the bad lighting, but this s the 10th knife I've made and I'm pretty happy with it. I just shipped it out to it's new owner. The shape has a pretty obvious influence...

  2. Amazing looking knife. Definitely has a Kramer-esque style.

Did you forge the Damascus yourself?

  4. No, I don't have the means to forge this right now. I plan to learn to pattern weld in the future. I purchased this from Alabama Damascus.

100% agreed! Very nice stuff here. And big kudos for sharing the WIP photos!

  12. Very beautiful!

  13. Thanks everyone! Already working on my next two, a 10" chefs and an 8" wa-gyuto. Excited to see how they turn out.

  14. What is the damascus composed of (steel wise)? Also what HRC did you end up with after heat treat? =)

Looking forward to seeing more of your work!

  15. The Damascus is 5160, 52100 and 15n20. It should be about 60 HRC after oil quench and tempering. I don't have a way to test it though.

It's quite the stunner. Dare I say the profile and handle are better than the production knives who are spec'd by Bob.
