Knife budget

I don't mean to say that the aesthetic alone decides if I get a knife. Somewhere Rick posted a list of qualities to consider when getting a knife. I thought it was in this thread, but I guess not. I thought the list had it just right. to get in the door you had to first liked the way it looked if I recall correctly. performance was in there too.

 

Back to the original topic:
Some time ago i started my WKAP (Wife-Knife-Acceptance-Programm), following the teachings of Pawlow. Whenever my beloved wife prepare a dish with crappy knifes, i do not say anything at all about the quality. If she uses highquality knives, i praise her excellent skills and ask for more (sometimes hard). Lets see how that works out..

 

I guess I'm 'lucky' in that the wife works, she likes to buy shiny things, I don't complain - a fair few raised eyebrows maybe.
When I got into shiny things with edges, she kind of shrugged her shoulders. But then, I know the prices of some of the stuff she's bought

 

Officially not allowed to buy anything anymore but willing to pull some strings for a unicorn.

 

Ha! Nice. The girl and I follow the approach some others on here mentioned (or at least similar to) where we have a joint account that covers our living expenses, we each have our 401ks nicely set, and everything else is ours for whatever we want to do with it. Car, gas, workout stuff, camera stuff, knives...

 

I started buying my wife particular knives, then I have to get one for myself that "matches". Mine are a bit bigger and maybe more $$. Don't think this will last long ...

Man. I remember this thread. These days the wife is happy. Especially since I sold a few and pointed out to her that there is very little loss. For example. If you buy a shig or a Marko or whatever for a 1000 bucks and sell couple of years later for 850.
You got 2 years with of fun for 150. That's a meal for 2 at a nice place.

Ps. Now the value is multiple of the 2.5 k

 

I keep trying to tell myself I won't get there - but it's probably a lie. When I started into photography I told myself I wouldn't get the expensive lenses, but now I have some.

Speaking of, there are two lenses I should sell. Would free up some funds...
