Wet Shaving?

Discussion in 'The Off Topic Room' started by PierreRodrigue, Feb 17, 2014.

  1. Thanks for the heads up:) already been reading up and watched a few videos, been shaving for 20+ years with disposables and cartridges so might take a little while to learn a new technique, got extra toilet roll on the shopping list for patching up:D

  2. Warren!!! nnnooooo

sorry guys we look like we lost another one down the rabbit hole. :jump

  3. Maybe if I hack my face to bits I will clamber out of the hole pretty quick:D

Honestly I've never hacked my face up with a DE more than I have with a cartridge razor. The first few shaves though, I set aside about 30 min just to make sure I could take my time. It really isn't even remotely as scary as it might seem.

  5. Probably setting myself up for disaster but I honestly can't remember the last time I nicked myself shaving, will just take my time and go easy and let the razor do the work

Congratulations Warren! Now what brush soap and aftershave are you looking at... oh and blades!

Snicker..... Bwahahahaa.. we got another one!

  7. I did nearly forget all that stuff!! Just went with Proraso Eucalyptus shave cream, a basic synthetic brush for now and the razor comes with Derby Extra and Personna Platinum blades so will see how that goes, think I will get a sample pack of blades to get a feel for the different brands. Yes it looks like you have lured another one:D

So is there any advantage to the DE over SE razor? I'm thinking a much greater variety of blades available but anything else? I'm really happy with my little GEM and was curious if there's really any thing gained from trying a DE.

  9. DE, SE ,Little GEM:confused:Don't confuse me any more than I already am:D I am sure someone will be able to give you a good answer though.

Well, it is the obvious one, you get two edges to shave with:)
Variety of blades, as you say, is another important one imho.

Getting a sampler pack of blades from one of the many vendors out there is sound advise imo.
Personally, I prefer Gillette yellow packs, Israeli Personna and Feathers for the rare days I will pull out one of my DE's

  11. Do we really need a brush? I saw this one but not sure if worth it.

Or should I go for a cheaper one?

A brush and a decent soap are basically a necesity and make the whole experience that much better. Doesn't have to be an expensive brush such as the one shown however...I get the most enjoyment out of my boar and horsehair brushes, but that's just me. Part of the fun is to try different things and find what you enjoy :)

  13. Ok I am going over the classified over lunch and found this. What is it and is it any good what price would it be?

  14. worked it out, its a tech. but a bit pricey at 50$. so the search continues.

  15. Parcel just arrived:)

Just by holding the razor I can see the appeal straight away, feels solid and looks extremely well made, really liking the Barley handle I chose.
Will see how I get on the with blades that came free with it, just waiting for the brush from another company.

  16. nice. and quick.

  17. That was their free economy delivery as well!! I really really could buy loads of vintage ones if I am not careful, nothing to do with shaving yet but they look and feel great:D

  18. Looks cool Warren!
    I really like your photos.

Thanks God I already spent all my pocket money on knives, otherwise I probably couldn't resist and might have dived into that rabbit hole.
