Older Henckels: Stamped or forged without a bolster

Discussion in 'The Kitchen Knife' started by The Kitchen Sink, Dec 22, 2014.

  1. We're visiting my wife's family for the holidays, and they have two German-made Henckels that her parents say are at least 35 years old.

Are these stamped, or were forged without a bolster?

They've been sharpened poorly, leaving the rear third unusable, but that's an easy fix. We're just curious.

    Thanks. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1419275291.833172.jpg

    My money is on stamped.

  3. That does look similar. Hmmmm

  4. As both knives have the same reference number, it is the same knife. German knives without bolster are usually not forged, but stamped. No need to forge if the knife has no bolster.
