A copper and G10 Full tang prototype

Discussion in 'Tristone Bladesmithing' started by Chadd Smith, Oct 26, 2015.

  1. This blade is a full tang prototype I have been playing around with for a "mans man" knife.

    210mm 62HRC RWL34 blade with 800 grit satin finish.

Copper bolster, G10/Copper liners and Mosaic Pins. The concave front of the bolsters was ground in by hand, I've had a few people ask so I thought I would just head it off here. The Bolster is held on by two copper pins peened into place.

I ended up giving this away to my neighbour as it had too many cosmetic flaws. I was unhappy with it and when I realised the time I would spend finishing the knife was not worth the outcome I took some pictures for record then gave it to my neighbour to make up for the noise I make.

I currently have another one of these in the making, a 210mm S35VN, 250mm S35VN and 250mm Niolox. All going well the last two larger knives will have Lightning Strike carbon Fibre with copper weave in stead of the G10.

I included a photo with one side with beaten copper and one side smooth, please mention what you prefer as I will take this into consideration depending on the consensus. The copper liners are also beaten all the way around the knife too.

    Thanks for looking.

    Chadd.

I like them both but the hammered copper is exceptional. The knife is too cool. Cosmetic flaws? You must have very high standards.

  3. I second the hammered being exceptional

  4. I prefer the hammered look as well. Gives it another level of detail

I'm not a fan of the hammered blades, but I dig it on that copper. love everything about that handle.

Looks cool now, but will look really cool once that copper gets some tarnish.
