  6. Thanks for the nice welcome, everybody! If I may quote myself:

My son sharpens knives, and that's how I got into this. I started out being obsessed with anything EDC: pens, flashlights, watches, and of course pocket knives. I kind of plateaued at Chris Reeve, luckily. When my son was sharpening kitchen knives, I pretended to care, but it wasn't my thing. When he first got some good Japanese knives to sharpen, I started paying attention. Wow! This is much more interesting than pocket knives (imho), even though you can't EDC them.

My current obsession (perhaps because I don't own it and can't seem find it) is a KS. I like the concept a lot. Don't know whether I'll like one after I find it, but right now I'm on the hunt. If it's true that they won't be made any more (and even if it isn't true, now that I think of it) I'd like to find a KS clone that people know to be as good as, or better than, the original. Any suggestions appreciated.

I'm joining these forums with a little bit of trepidation. Kitchen knives are expensive and quite addictive, as I'm sure all of you know much better than I do. In pens, pocket knives, watches, and flashlights, I've started in the $25-$50 range and within a year or two, never mind. My wife can google. Anyway, while I realize that these knives can get up in price, it seems like the super-expensive ones are usually costly for cosmetic or F&F reasons, as opposed to pure functionality. That will keep the cost down, I hope, as those aspects don't usually do much for me.

Any suggestions or guidance most appreciated. Thanks for welcoming me aboard.

    Alan
