    Excerpted from ZKnives.com

"Aogami(Blue) 2 (YSS) - Also referred as Ao-Ko II. Hitachi high carbon steel, specifically developed for tools and knives. Very pure alloy - P <= 0.025%, S <= 0.004%. ... very good steel, just like its brother Aogami 1. ... it's slightly tougher compromising wear resistance a bit. Although, at those levels of hardness 63HRC and above, the difference is really hard to tell, at least in home kitchen use."

    Happy to help out, Randy.

Is some of that going to find its way into some damascus as core steel?

I might have understood that better :p

    Thank you Rick!

You say "core steel", so damascus is a blend of more than one steel?

Jason. Damascus or pattern welded steel. which is what most modern "damascus" really is. Is a combination of 2 or more steels forged together and manipulated to create the patterns you see when its finished out.

Blue 2 can be used and paired with any number of carbon steels in a damascus billet. I have used it in damascus once so far. But will be doing more now that I have a nice surplus of the material!! I will also use it as a core steel in san mai billets with damascus cladding and or stainless cladding.

That is a very brief explanation.. If you or anyone has any other questions about this subject. Please do ask. I will do my best to answer.

    Blessings
