  1. The Coral Snake causes me mixed feelings. Beautiful colors on a pretty unpleasant creature.

More or less the same I feel about this handle:

It's a prototype that I made to see how this combination of wood would look like. Only rough sanding and quick coat of oil to give some idea how colors would look. I have no idea how it would look on a blade. Might be ugly or might be ok.

    What do you think?

Personally, I like it. I could see it on a knife, especially a knife with a kurouchi finish.

  4. I had the same mixed feeling when the first time I looked at it.

Imho the handle will match well with a bling knife once you make the finish glossier.

  5. I don't really see the grain of the wood, which is what I like about the material. To each their own but not for me.

I think the concept is not bad and the colors are nice, though matching the pattern to a knife is a challenge. What bugs me is that the pieces are inconsistently sized in the photo.

My personal tastes are a little less busy but the style could certainly be made to work; I like this a lot more than I like many color combinations being put out by other handle makers.

  8. Thanks you expressed how I was feeling about this.

  9. Yes inconsistent sizes pieces are what really catch my eye and make it look dirty. But it's a prototype (which means I didn't want to invest my time, or use best wood on it), so quality issues were expected.

I'm not going to use this particular handle on any knife, but I would keep in mind that this design doesn't really looks THAT busy in real life. For example my wife liked it much more then most other handles that I've made lately.

All these metal spacers are plain crazy ;) That said, nice craftsmenship but not quite my style.

When I was about 12 years old we moved to Florida.
Cleaning up the back yard, under a board we found a couple small scarlet king snakes.
So my brother and I caught them and kept them as pets. One day one of the neighbor kids told us that the local pet store would buy king snakes.
We took them to the store and the owner got real mad and yelled at us for trying to sell him poisonous snakes.
Guess we got the order of the colors mixed up. But they were very gentle and made good pets.

I didn't like it at first glance but I think I want it. The more I look the more I like.
