While ago a gentleman commissioned a Damascus Nakiri within the unicorn territory. I had owned and used Nakiris in the past but never made one so I wanted to make one as practice .
Damascus is forged by Randy jr over the hammer in with my and Mike's help ( minimal that is ) It was based on multiple crushed w's and then twisted . Randy generously gave the billet to me and I have forged it from that same billet . It is 15n20/1084 , hardened around 61-62 hrc
I have chosen Kansai style where the tip has a upswept curve rather than flat square designs . The blade is 160mm long , 59mm tall . It is 3.75mm at the spine tapering to 2.5mm around mid point then 1.2mm an inch before the tip . It is ground slight asymmetric with tall bevels , ease of cutting and food release was very good even prior to sharpening.
I have chosen budgeroo burl as handle material from peter cheal , The timber joint with double copper spacers and walrus tusk . Tried to match the grain of the timber along with the blade too . I have noticed a tiny crack at the ferrule and took care of it with super glue
The balance point is exactly at the makers mark and the knife weighs 187grams , available for sale , thanks for looking
    Mert

  9. Really, I think this is a great idea. It gives you a bit more control over the blade. And the weight balance is also slightly more towards the blade, which I usually like.
