Forgecraft Reinvented.

Just wanted to put up a few pics of the new Forgecraft.

IMO, these knives were a pretty good deal at 350.00...it appears they are now going for 210.00. at that price is is almost a steal. I think they only made 20 of these and would make others based off demand.

Packing on these knives is really something else, this one came with a nice wood box branded with Forgecraft.

Inside the box, again, well branded the knife is in a branded cardboard sleeve, bubble wrap around the black lacquered handle and a red cloth.

A basic black leather sheath is included as well.

The knife itself is a looker, definitely not something we would think of when thinking Forgecraft. The blade is 250 mm in length coming in at 214 g. The spine is polished and rounded. The choil, while not polished is rounded and comfortable. The balance is approx. 1.5 inches in from the choil. The steel is White #2 with an iron cladding. My electronic caliper is out of batteries, but the spine thickness appears to be about 3.75mm at the handle with a nice consistent distal taper down to about 1mm an inch from the tip and darn near nothing at the tip. The handle is a single body black lacquered wood which feels to have good grip and hopefully durability.

It has a beautiful consistent grind down to a very thin edge.

Next up, IMO, the most important factor and perhaps the only thing similar to a vintage Forgecraft, the edge profile is spot on. No big flat, just a nice consistent rise to a low tip. Perfect for a light push cut with the tip being low enough you don't have to raise or twist your wrist when doing tip work.

At that price I had to have a look, my 50's forgecraft chefs knife is my favourite profile, I have another custom on the way modelled on it.

Judging by my order number they haven't reached the 20 sold yet but are getting close

  4. The knife is a modified/custom Kagekiyo so at ~$210 it really is a steal, I was debating pulling the trigger and when I saw MattS' post I bought one also.

  5. I just ordered one too, they should send you a t shirt or something as a thank you for all the sales you made for them. Nice review, can't wait to check one out in person

They have to be close to being out. I got number 12 and that was a few weeks ago.

  7. My order was 14, so that makes KCmande and Huw around 15 and 16. So that leaves 4 blades left at most?

  8. My order number was 1017 which leads me to believe there may only be 3 left, if they follow a conventional system

  9. Guess one other person ordered in between, who knows might only be 1 or 2 left now =)

I had one in my cart yesterday night figuring I would just check out in the morning and all were gone. I am having non buyers remorse since it was a blade right up my alley and if it was a modified Kageyiko, I'd be and little more upset since I want one of them and in Forgecraft profile for $209.99 is a highway robbery.

  11. Hey, Everyone. I'm hoping that it's ok that I post this because all the knives are sold out now (if not, please delete it). I'm one of the people that made these, and I'm so glad to see that they are ending up with people that will appreciate them. I bought this trademark because I love classic Forgecrafts, and our intention is to build another series that looks more like the originals (brick pattern!) with updated grinds and materials. It's going to be a little while, but when we're ready, we'll buy a vendor membership and tell you all about it.

P.S. - If anyone is wondering why they sold out at 19, I kept the last one for my son. He's only 18m old now, but I'm hoping he'll grow up to be badass in the kitchen. :)

  12. I read all of your FAQ and it was not only hilarious, but spot on point about high quality kitchen knives. It is obvious that you and your compatriots are true knife knerds and enthusiasts who are keeping a venerated cutlery name alive and paying homage to it. Bravo!

I love the look of this knife. I do wish they'd have incorporated the brick wall. Wonder if demand is there for them to continue?

Thanks for the offer, Matt. I have a confirmed order, but haven't gotten shipping information yet, and it's been a week.

Thought I'd ask before I PM Jaethan.
