    Hello there.

I do not have professional craftsman badge, but I hope that nobody will have something against my post. I just feel need to show you what I have done:D:D:D:D

This is a third knife made be me. I made two blades two years ago for fun, but this is my first serious knife. I made it for my friend as a birthday gift and.... and I think that it will be my new hobby. I regret many mistakes I have done, but there is a lot to learn and I still have a time.

I would like to add that I don't have a workshop and I am doing everything in my kitchen and bathroom, including grinding:D

    So there we go:

    Steel O1 @ 60 - 61 HRC

    Total lenght: 37.7cm
    Cutting edge lenght- 24.1cm
    Spine thickness:

    Over the heel: 3.01mm
    In the middle: 2.67mm
    2cm from tip - 1.64mm

Thickness behind the edge 0.17mm (could be less).

Handle and saya made from cedar wood.
Ferrule made from stabilised California Buckeye burl
Stand is made from different kind of cedar.

I love sharpening videos, so there you go. I have sharpened this knife on JNS 1000 and Red Aoto

    And cutting test:

  2. This is WONDERFUL, lol!! I love that you made it in your kitchen and bathroom :D. Definitely something I would do lol.

I haven't watched the videos yet...but I'd like to ask how thick the knife is around the shinogi? In the choil picture it would be the area where the shadow to the right focuses on the knife flat.

Going to watch those videos now...beautiful craftsmanship my friend. Truly.

Thank you Cris. I can't tell you how thick it is there, because I gave it to my friend yesterday. I will try to remember and next time when I visit him I will measure it.

  5. I'm assuming you made this from a blank that was already heat treated?
Unless you have the world's most unreal kitchen/bathroom forge...
Looks pretty damn great for something made in such a humble manner. I like the clean, simple aesthetic.
    Cheers

No mate. I bought some steel, cut out everything and then started working. Some pictures:

Yeah you get like 10x awesome points now. Pretty cool video. But what about all the metal shavings? Great exfoliation in the shower?

Man, I didn't realize you did this stuff! Awesome, awesome work.
I wonder how many makers use the old "clamp the blade to a board" move. I never have, but it seems safer and easier to control.

  14. Pre-hardening it works great, and I often use a 1x2 board pressed broadside against the blade to make sure my flat grinds are flat (though I don't clamp it!). Finger pressure can skew the grind a good bit if you're not careful. Post hardening you have to be much more careful! I still use the board for certain things, but even wet grinding like I do, it's really easy to overheat the blade and ruin the temper.

Very nicely done! How long did it take you to finish the knife?

  17. The video quality is flat insane, lol. It looks surreal, almost 3D!!
