    More tomatoes and a cucumber

Also did a watermelon and cantaloupe plant in the other side of the patio.

I have family coming to visit for Memorial day, so of course we're having a heat wave and the garden is peaking a month early. It will be crispy weeds by the time family gets here. Enjoying it now, tho. Except for the heat part. The itoh peonies (last 2 pics) normally don't bloom for another month. The flowers are about as big as your hand.

    Thanks, Duck Boy!

I am jealous of your tomatoes. I've been too busy to start seedlings, and with all this hot weather it's going to be a good year for them. I hope my tomato man is at the farmer's market this year.

Maybe someone with a green thumb can tell me what these things are. They look like those thorny weeds that grow in random spots in your yard....as if that helps to explain it.

But these things are HUGE. Like 5-6 feet tall. They are growing in the cemetery in front of my house.

Yes! That's the word I was looking for. A thistle. I had no idea they got this large.

This one is the carduus nutans I've figured out now that I know it's a thistle. They can reach up to 4 meters!

    Thanks!

Lucretia.......I can live with Duck Boy. If you remind me I will send you a box of tomatoes in July.
I was able to pick my first batch of lettuce today.
Just finished eating a giant salad and barely put a dent in what I picked.

These are one of my favorite tomatoes that I grew last year. Black Krim, a Russian heirloom variety. I planted these real deep and as they grow I cut off the lower leaves and build up more soil around the plant. Right now they are about 1 foot underground and about 1&1/2 foot tall above ground. They seem to be well established and are starting to really grow. I have been doing this with all the tomatoes this year and they seem to be a lot sturdier than any I have grown before. The reasoning behind this is that roots sprout from the underground trunk area.

Took a bunch of photos today

Cucumbers and a mound of onions. Cucumbers are starting to bloom already. Never seen such small plants produce blooms.

    1.JPG

    Pepper plants.

    2.JPG

Potatoes! These things have gone nuts. Fastest growing plant out there.

    3.JPG

Even the small tomato plants have tomatoes already. Crazy!

    4.JPG

    5.JPG

    6.JPG

    Watermelons!

    7.JPG

Cantaloupe! These will get thinned out once they grow a bit more.

    8.JPG

More tomatoes and a squash right in the middle.

I took these photos 3 or 4 days ago. Everything is bigger now. I went organic with everything this year and it is working out well so far.
Herbs and Garlic in the bed behind.

Snap peas to the left, snow peas to the right.

    Pineapple Tomatoes.
    Black Krim Tomatoes.
Different normalish salad tomatoes. Early stuff.

There are several other tomato and veggie beds not shown. Everything is doing great this year.

I don't know what is happening with the photos. They are all the same size as the bottom photo but my browser is enlarging all the other ones.
