Looks like you made really productive use of your space.
My garden is more of random plantings.
and that dang motion sensor sprinkler is getting better with it's aim.

Still working on the presentation of the garden. I loaded up the truck with 1 ton of crushed limestone today and spread it out. I'm gonna need 1 more ton I think. Everything is sprouting and coming in great so far.

 

I don't know what this is but it sure is pretty!

 

Not very organized gardening but things are getting a good start.
Some different heirloom tomato seedlings.

Lettuce and peas.

Mint and a few herbs.

Onions and lettuce starting.

Potatos and onions.

 

I love all these raised beds. Maybe someday...

A few years ago people were planting them everywhere because they're pretty healthy and low maintenance.

I've had 5 raised beds for a few years now, I don't even have to plant much anymore it just all pops up randomly from dropped seeds. Mainly growing a basil & tomato Forrest with some beets, herbs & edible flowers. I'll post some photos later.

 

we are gettig closer to plans for adding 2 more beds but that will have to wait till we dig out the new walk way so i can steel more top soil

 

Something is eating holes in the leaves of my potatoes and sunflowers.
So....I am going to try something not as toxic as the chemical sprays.
I had read on an organic gardening site that you can mix cayenne powder, garlic powder, a little dish soap and water to make a spray to get rid of the leaf eaters.
I will try on a couple plants to make sure it doesn't burn the leaves.

I really don't want to use chemical poisons because my garden has lady bugs, lizards, frogs and snakes as well as a ton of earthworms.

bad day for newly planted crops. high winds are whipping the crap out of everything including my raspberrys

A deer mauled the cherry tree the other day, and bugs are getting the plum tree. Been trying to get these trees going for several years, and they are still saplings as they both required replacement last year. We put fencing around both, but it looks like a deer got its head under the fencing at the cherry and was able to pry it up enough to go to town on the middle part of the trunk. I hope to heck it survives.

On the positive side, lettuces are within a couple days of being ready to start harvesting, strawberries are off to a good start, and parsley, sage and marjoram are growing like weeds. Mint is starting to get going as well.

 

This year I have been using a product called Liquid Fence Deer Repellent.
It works!
Last year the deer would come up on the front porch and eat the rose bushes and everything else.
I have been using the spray for the past few months and no deer problems. I reapply every 2 weeks.
I still see the group of seven deer but now they don't come into the yard or the garden.
I bought the 1 gallon liquid at walmart for about $25

Most of my tomatoes are heirloom varieties but I am trying out a grafted beefsteak as well. Those will be my slicers for hamburgers.
When I was a kid we competed with each other to see who could grow the biggest tomato.
We grew some beefsteaks well in excess of a pound. I was just a kid but my memory has me recalling tomatoes bigger than grapefruits.

 

This is when I first built my vege garden out of old pallets. It used to look so nice, thats about 3 years ago.


Now it looks a bit more ramshackle! stuff just pops up where it wants and I pick and choose. Its mostly a forest of basil, tomatoes, cucumbers beets and various herbs and edible flowers.


We are lucky here in Brisbane, you can pretty much grow anything you want year round There are only two seasons, Hot and slightly less hot. summer is slightly harder to grow leafy greens unless you water them ALOT they will bolt to seed.

We were aiming to have most of our garden edible. Turns out thats a lot harder than I expected!

 

I'm beginning to think I got stiffed when I got my Bay Tree, zero flavor in those leaves, but it looks right...

 

Does it look something like this? Crush up a leaf in your fingers and smell it. It should have a very strong smell & flavour.


I only use one or two leaves for most stuff at home. These ones are pretty strong.
